Apple’s ATT framework will take effect on April 26, 2021

On April 20, 2021, Apple announced that the AppTracking Transparency Framework (“ATT Framework”) will take effect on April 26, 2021 along with the upcoming release of iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, and tvOS 14.5.

The announcement states that when submitting an app to Apple for review (1) in the “Privacy Information” section of the App Store, app developers must provide any form of “tracking” in which the app is involved (i.e. after “Identifier for Advertisers “or another ID) e.g. (E.g. name or email address) and (2) contain a purpose string in the login prompt to explain why the app wants to track the user.

Apple reminded app developers that fingerprint devices (that is, the collection of device and usage data with the intention of inferring a unique representation of a user) are in violation of the Apple Developer Program license agreement. This follows news that Apple has already started disapproving fingerprint technology apps.
