California attorney general approves additional CCPA regulations

On March 15, 2021, the California Attorney General (“AG”) approved additional CCPA regulations that affect certain sections of the original CCPA regulations that became effective August 14, 2020. These changes were the subject of the third and fourth The proposed change sets took effect on March 15, 2021.

In particular, the newly amended CCPA rules state that methods of submitting opt-out requests may not have been designed with, or have the material effect of, “undermining or prejudicing” a consumer’s decision to opt out. Illustrative examples will help implement methods for submitting opt-out requests that require minimal steps and are easy for the consumer to perform. The amended CCPA provisions also contain the uniform CCPA opt-out symbol, which can be used in addition to the publication of the reference to the opt-out right.
