Florida sports betting still under discussion, but little time

Time is of the essence, though Florida will legalize sports betting this year.

The 2021 legislative period will be suspended April, 30th. That leaves little time for lawmakers to come to an agreement with them Seminole Indians, Bill, and get everyone on board for voting.

Still, efforts to legalize sports betting in Florida are there, Senate President Wilton Simpson told other senators in a memo on other gaming issues:

“While the ongoing negotiations with the Seminole Tribe have been productive and will continue as we move into the final weeks of the session, I would like to press ahead with the committee review of two key non-Pact issues.”

Will Florida be the next sports betting jackpot?

At this point in the year there appears to be sports betting Texas is more likely than Florida.

The sports betting industry is in demand four States as crown jewels:

  • California
  • Florida
  • new York
  • Texas

Mobile sports betting in New York was the first big surprise of 2021 – first for the actual completion and second for the unconventional model.

The legalization of sports betting in Texas is still in the preliminary stages, as proponents and opponents gave testimony on several gambling laws on Wednesday evening. However, it will not be a smooth sailing: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick | tried in February to destroy all hopes for a legalization of sports betting.

Texas might still have a better chance than Florida, however. An offer to give the Seminole Indians sports betting in exchange for a non-tribal casino in, according to the Miami Herald Miami Beach was rejected Tuesday.

Biggest Problem: The cut in winnings on sports betting has been split between the Seminole and the Seminole pari-mutuel operationsthe Herald reported.

Other gaming problems are progressing

While FL sports betting remains in the air, the Senate Budget Committee other gaming issues were positively reported on Thursday.

SB 7076 would legalize a five member member Gaming Control Commission with appointments from the governor. The only provisions would require a law enforcement officer, accountant, and attorney.

SB 7080 Holders of a pari mutuel permit with card rooms or slots would no longer be required to continue offering harness racing, quarter horse racing, or jai alai.

“Many of the industries have asked for decoupling” It is. Travis Huston said. “They have to perform live to keep their parimutuel licenses for their card room or slots.

“And when you look at things like Jai Alai, it’s not a profitable business. So you lose money to keep your card room or slot facility. So they asked if we could get rid of this provision because it had only been a legal requirement for so many years.
